Robbie Coltrane, who played Hagrid in the Harry Potter films, dies aged 72

Coltrane's more-than-40-year career spanned roles in James Bond movies GoldenEye and The World Is Not Enough, and the lead in 1990s British TV collection Cracker as crook psychologist Dr. Edward "Fitz" Fitzgerald. The actor died on Friday (nearby time) at a sanatorium close to Falkirk in Scotland, his agent Belinda Wright stated. Harry Potter's big name Daniel Radcliffe stated Coltrane turned into "one of the funniest human beings I've met".

I was especially fond of his memories of keeping our spirits up in [the Harry Potter movie] Prisoner of Azkaban, while we'd all been hiding from the pouring rain for hours in Hagrid's hut and turning to telling tales and jokes in order to keep morale up. Born March 30, 1950, in Rotherglen, South Lanarkshire, Anthony Robert MacMillan adapted his call as a tribute to jazz musician John Coltrane. He turned into a talented and famous comedian in the comedic boom of comedic opportunities inBritain in the 1990s, playing a series of television roles that covered regular appearances on The Comic Strip show...Comedy Boom - he wrote that he met Coltrane specifically nearly forty years ago. That depth, strength, talent: enough sense of humor to cause helpless hiccups and honking when we presented our first TV show, "Al Fresco." farewell,

He was a gifted comic actor and a star of Britain's 1980s alternative comedy boom, playing a string of television roles that included regular appearances in The Comic Strip Presents... anthology series.
Broadcaster Stephen Fry — a fellow breakout star of the alternative comedy boom — wrote he had met Coltrane almost exactly 40 years ago.
"I was awe/terror/love struck all at the same time. Such depth, power & talent: funny enough to cause helpless hiccups & honking as we made our first TV show, 'Alfresco'. Farewell, old fellow. You'll be so dreadfully missed."

In crime series Cracker, Coltrane showed his serious side.

Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said it was her favourite of his many parts.

"Robbie Coltrane, Scottish entertainment legend — you will be hugely missed," she tweeted.

He is survived by his sister Annie Rae, his children Spencer and Alice, and their mother, Rhona Gemmell, his agent said.

She did not immediately offer other details about his death.
